Heritage Open Days – Grenoside Sword Dancers 18th and 22nd September

Grenoside Reading Room, 42A School Lane, Grenoside, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S35 8QU

The Grenoside Sword Dancers and Six Jolly Miners sword dancers give you the opportunity to learn about the history of this living local tradition and to have a go yourself

The Grenoside Sword Dancers have been in continuous existence for over 200 years. Longsword, as this form of dancing is known, involves a team of dancers linked by blunt dancing swords and performing a series of intricate figures. We are one of only 5 traditional teams still in existence in the UK. There are many new or revival teams such as the Six Jolly Miners. Come and learn about this rich local tradition, and have a go yourself!

Wednesday 18 September: Sword dancing taster session, 7pm, Grenoside Reading Room
Sunday 22 September: Open Day at Grenoside Reading Room

No booking required
