Monday Open Days: The Reading Room will be open on Mondays from 11.45am to 3.00pm, for home-made soup and a roll, home-made cakes, teas and coffees. Please come and have a look around, all welcome. FREE

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3 Parish Woodland Celebration event

As part of the 3 Parish Woodland Celebration event Ecclesall Parish
council have teamed with Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust in
inviting you to explore the ancient woodland of Greno. Rich in wildlife
and full of historic interest - Greno woods is the perfect place to
appreciate why ancient woodlands are so important.

There will be family friendly activities in the woodland itself and a
talk by Prof. Melvyn Jones held at the The Reading Room.

The events are free and will also be bookable through the Heritage Open Days website (details to follow).

SATURDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER

10am - 2pm - Greno Woods - Mini beast hunting and charcoal making with
the Outdoor Learning Team (children's activities)

Finding mini beasts - Join the Outdoor Learning Team in exploring what
plants and animals live in an ancient woodland and help us find some of
the minibeasts that live in Greno woods.

Charcoal making - Make your own charcoal! Greno woods was used for
charcoal making for hundreds of years. What is charcoal and why did we
need it? Find out the answers and more while you make your own charcoal.

2:30pm The Reading Room - A talk by Prof. Melvyn Jones

SOUTH YORKSHIRE'S WOODLAND HERITAGE WITH A SPECIAL REFERENCE TO
GRENO WOODS.

Melvyn Jones is a local expert on woodlands. He was appointed Visiting
Professor in environmental history at Sheffield Hallam University in
1999, he is a radio personality and is the author of over 60 books. Join
us for what will be a fascinating talk about how Sheffield's woodland
heritage has driven its industrial past, and how this has shaped the
woodlands we enjoy today.
